Age of Stupid movie Poster
“On October 25th and 26th, and only on these two dates, IndyACT in partnership with the British Embassy-Lebanon, American Lebanese Chamber of Commerce and the Green party of Lebanon is screening the movie “Age of Stupid” at Cinema Metropolis Empire Sofil at 6pm. The movie is an enormously ambitious drama-documentary-animation hybrid which stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching ‘archive’ footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change while we had the chance?
Some things you should know about the movie:
- Age of Stupid hit No 1 at the UK box office when it came out in March beating Slumdog Millionaire and Julia Roberts’ new flick.
- It won Best Documentary2009, Birds Eye View Films festival; as well as Sunny Side of the Doc Best Green Documentary 2008.
- Ed Miliband, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change said, “I thought the Age of Stupid was an incredibly powerful account of the effects of climate change, the urgency, of climate change and the reasons we must act as quickly as possible.”
- The EU, UK, Scottish, Welsh, Swedish & Dutch parliaments have all screened Age of Stupid – as have the UN, World Bank, EPA & European Commission.
- Age of Stupid is seen by many as “The first successful dramatization of climate change to reach the big screen.”
Tickets will be sold at Cinema Metropolis Empire Sofil and in IndyACT’s office. For more info call IndyACT on 01-447192 or 03-015787.
PLUS: For my students in EVSC 237, EVSC 331, and BIOL 207, you can get extra credit if you go and send me an email discussing the film.
(note: back to the title of the post: ‘The Age of Stupid is coming to Lebanon,’ I look forward to the day when the age of stupid will be leaving Lebanon.)

@your note:
I don’t expect that to happen any time soon
See you all at the movie!!
