environmental nobel prizes…and responsibility

I’m back in Lebanon. I arrived yesterday afternoon, and was pleased that it was an official holiday and thus the streets were not as polluted with the whining of drivers.

In my first blog back, I found some refreshing news: indivuals, working with their communities, who have made a difference in protecting their lands.  Here are some – from a traditional environmental perspective: Winners of the “Environmental Nobel Prizes” Fought for a Cleaner Planet

As important as their work is, it is work that should have been done by their respective governments.  The work is, in essence, state responsibility.  Embedded in all community work should be that rememberance: the responsibility of the state to its citizenry and to the land.
