Israel: cutting trees in Lebanon

This is one of the smallest examples of Israeli acts of environmental destruction and violation of sovereignty. Nevertheless, it is not to be disregarded or forgiven.

“Lebanon criticizes Israeli tree-cutting .. UN chief, Security Council urged to condemn Jewish state for cutting branches from tree growing in Lebanese territory. Lebanon  is urging the United Nations secretary-general and the Security Council to condemn Israel for cutting branches from a tree growing in Lebanese territory. … In letters to Ban Ki-moon and the council circulated Thursday, Lebanon’s UN Ambassador Nawaf Salam said an Israeli tractor with a special blade mounted on a hoist reached over a fence on January 7 and cut branches from a tree growing in Lebanese territory. The tree was on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese border town of Kafr Kila-Marjuyun, he said.”

  1. Really it is an upset situation!!!! an upset situation to see Lebanon our sacrificed country under the control of neighboring countries without having any governmental power to put limits to many types of disorders that occur mainly at the south of it (Lebanon). It is true that Lebanon’s UN Ambassador Nawaf Salam advanced the issue of “Israeli tree cutting in Lebanon” to the United Nations secretary-general and the Security Council, but will the UN decides to condemn Israel? We hope!

  2. The relation between the two countries should be corrected as soon as possible because it is obvious that the nature is the first part to be damaged. This fact is seen in every move between Lebanon and Israel and during the last war nature had its own part in losing vast areas due to the attack by huge branch of armed forces. This endless fighting will always cause an increase in pollution. Trees, soil, sea are really in continuous danger.
Then, what is the guilt of these growing trees to cut them? Will cutting them make Israel win the battle? Why accepting peace is so hard?
I really hope that this time Israel will be judged according to its deeds and justice will applied for the sake of nature.

  3. Not only that Israiel can’t get enough from steeling our water, it is now cutting trees from our territory, such a great damage to our landscapes and green fortune can be very severe. we all know that The UN cannot do anyhting about it because it is Israel, many Israelian planes breach our air everyday and still no one can say nothing. Back to the ecological point of view we’ve already lost so many green spaces from the fires that abolished a lot of plants and green landscapes. Eventually this will lead to the scarcity of these resources, so buy cutting more trees from our land this will make things worse , a decrease in trees will affect the weather and climate change , the four seasons we have etc .. Good luck for the UN in trying to stop Israel because like a million times before they wont succed …

  4. they do not have the right to do that and not just because they are transpassing over our land but because they are stealing our oxygene. hehe (MArtha and Leyade)

  5. By the way we have to hand it to them, they are protecting their natural resources by stealing ours….now that is neakey but smart

  6. This is beyond logic now! Who gives them the right to do so? Or they have a free pass to anything in the world nowadays? This is a very sensitive topic, I just wish we were more powerful politically and economically to plan and work on letting Israel pay the price.

  7. it is sad to see how political differences are affecting the environment. it went too far this time. israel is tryin to control us even in the most simplest but harmful way. the effect of israel exceded polotical issues to damage our water resources, our infrastructure and now our trees. the united nations should put an end to this as soon as possible because this is harming us in way we don’t even understand.

  9. I was suprised when reading this article. In fact, israel wants to take our water and our trees. and unfortunately its two of the best things lebanon owns. I wish our government could do anything for this issue; but unfortunately its israel and we don’t have the capacity to prevent it from doing such things.

  10. let them cut a branch and we will plant a tree..let then cut a tree and we will plant a forest..let them burn our hole land and we will rise again from the ashes.. but guys i think that we should start doing our own ob by planting more and conserving what we have left..let us vote for change and start by making a progress with what we can..

  11. I think this is a big issue. We are losing everyday our natural resources because of them. They steal our water, lives of our citizens and now they are stealing our trees. What’s next?!?! The UN should come to a solution we can’t lose every gift Lebanon has because they are economically and politically supported by “big countries”!

  12. There is an article about the same issue on the cover page of “Al-Balad” newspaper dated 24/2/2010 where the olive trees of palestinians people are removed. Knowing that these trees are their source of living. Till when the political issues will destroy nature and by that life??

  13. I don’t think that Israel intention was to attack Lebanon’s nature by cuttiing branches from a single tree. I am not defending Israel but I think it was more a tactical move to spy on Lebanon or whatever which is even worse, but not endanger Lebanese nature as everyone pointed. Not that Israel is not endagering nature in other places but not this time.

  14. it does not really matter whether they did it to spy or to harm the trees, the fact is that they’re endagering our nature and existence and once again their act is just passing unobserved and unpunished!

  15. come on guys! whats the big deal? i mean there are more serious things israel did to bitch about! i mean seriousely!
