This morning, I had this surreal conversation with someone who shall be named as “X”.
X: “So did you go to that protest on Sunday?” [referring to the march against the sectarian regime in Lebanon]
Me: “Yes, of course. I was there! It was beautiful. Energetic. Estimates range from 8,000 to 20,000 people. Last week, we were approximately 3,000 – so we’re growing.-”
X: “Were there different sects there?”
Me: “Uh… I don’t know what the sects were of those protesting with me.”
Me: “I did see a Sheikh.”
X: “Sunni or Shi’ite?”
Me: “uh… I don’t know. Gregoire Haddad was there as well.”
X: “Is he catholic? Greek orthodox?”
Perhaps in our next march for a secular regime, we should walk according to our sectarian affiliations.
